Force Testing
For the motorisation of sliding gates, swing gates and barriers in accordance with Machinery Directive 98/37/EEC and the appliance parts of standards EN 13241-1, EN 12453, EN 12445
It is essential for motorised gates & barriers to be force tested to check for pressures; all new gate & barrier installations and any retro- fit installations require undergoing a full force test and risk assessment.
Please find below what each test consists of:
Sliding Gate Force Testing
- A total of 27 tests must be carried out on each motorised gate system/
- Vertical measurements are taken from 50mm from the bottom, 300mm from the top & halfway up the gate (up to a height of 2.5m)/
- Distances from the closing position of the gate are measure at 50mm, 300mm & 500mm
- Each measurement is taken 3 times and the average is recorded.
- If the average test result for the closing position
exceeds 400N in force, the motorised gate fails and an appropriate safety device should be fitted to the gate- the test must be repeated.
- The test is repeated for the opening phase of the gate if an obstruction or opening pillar is in situ.
- If the average test result for the opening phase exceeds 400N in force, the motorised gate fails and an appropriate safety device should be fitted to the gate- the test must be repeated.
Swing Gate Force Testing
- A total of 27 tests must be carried out on each motorised gate system.
- Vertical measurements are taken from 50mm from the bottom, 300mm from the top & halfway up the gate (up to a height of 2.5m).
- Distances from the closing position of the gate are measure at 50mm, 300mm & 500mm
- Each measurement is taken 3 times and the average is recorded.
- If the average test result for the closing position exceeds 400N in force, the motorised gate fails and a
n appropriate safety device should be fitted to the gate- the test must be repeated.
- The test is repeated for the opening phase of the gate if an obstruction (wall, fence) is within 500mm of the gates fully opening position.
- If the average test result for the opening phase exceeds 400N in force, the motorised gate fails and an appropriate safety device should be fitted to the gate- the test must be repeated.
